Located on the banks of the Wami River bordering Saadani National Park, PekuPeku offers accommodation in luxury tents nestled in nature, and tailor-made safaris off the beaten track.

Welcome to PekuPeku

Spend the day cruising down the Wami River and on game drives admiring the diverse wildlife and vegetation of Saadani - East Africa's only national park on the ocean. After an adventure-filled day, enjoy freshly prepared meals and cold drinks, ending the day at a campfire under starry skies. Rest safely through the night in our luxury tents, and then enjoy a sunrise stroll along the many trails around camp.

REST & REJUVENATE

Spend the night in a luxury tent on stilts with ensuite bathroom and shower. Enjoy the tranquillity of the wilderness, and watch monkeys climbing the treetops from your veranda.

PekuPeku means “barefoot“ - we offer excursions and accommodation close to nature. We promote low impact travel, sustainable tourism, as well as respect for, and interaction with local communities.

TENTED CAMP

As close to nature as it gets...

Our luxury tents on stilts are privately set in nature with large verandas allowing you extensive views of the bush.

Tents come with ensuite bathroom and an outdoor shower surrounded by nature.

We are just outside the National Park Gate, so no park fees need to be paid for your stay at Peku.

Self-campers are welcome.

SAADANI NP

River. Bush. Beach. Saadani National Park encompasses a unique variety of flora and fauna. There are over 40 different species of mammals, a stunning variety of reptiles, and up to 140 types of birds. Elephants have been seen bathing in the ocean, green turtles breed on its beaches, lions hunt on the savannah and black & white colobus monkeys frolic in the canopy of the evergreen Zaraninge forest.

Electricity for lighting and appliance charging is generated from solar energy.

We use fresh and organic produce sourced locally, supporting local farmers by purchasing directly from small-scale farms and traders.

Bee keeping

We work to protect pollinators by keeping bee hives - also providing us with local honey for your breakfast.

Reuse, reduce, recycle

Our focus is on reusing, reducing waste, and recycling. We aim to avoid one-way plastics completely.

Natural materials

The camp is built and furnished by local craftsmen and women using local materials.

• PekuPeku is a short 45 min drive from Bagamoyo • 15 min flying from Zanzibar (pickup at the airstrip can be arranged) • 2 hrs or more (depending on traffic) drive from Dar es Salaam • transfers can be arranged
